I do NOT think anyone should become a teen parent if possible and I’m going to stick with that stance.

Scary! Once she does start dating, I want to make sure she’s prepared for what she’s up against. Dating is a lot of work, especially for teens and young adults. […]

Teens moms are a statistic, most are on welfare, most end up with children that become teen parents themselves or worse. Are there awesome teen moms? Of course! But you have to understand that most teen moms struggle and it’s not an easy road for them.

It feels as if your trying to shame teen mothers. Yes it is difficult, there is no doubt. However, telling teens not to have sex for fear of getting pregnant is outrageous and unrealistic. No one is perfect. Not every man is going to leave you, and not everyone has to be a parent alone. I came from a family that ended up being supportive of my decision to keep my son. I finished high school and now attend college. It is unfair to make teen moms feel as statistics. Yes it is hard, but not impossible. Support is the answer not shame.

I would never suggest being a teen mom to anyone, but I’m also so thankful for my son. Congrats on finding your true love and having a supportive father for your daughter!!

I can relate. I am 33, my oldest just turned 16, so do the math…I was also a teen mom. It was awful. I am only friends with one girl that I went to school with. The rest of them had a different life that they were living, we had nothing in common and I no longer cared about who was dating who and who was wearing what. My parents were wonderful and helped me raise my daughter, but only AFTER I was forced to marry the man I thought I was madly in love with. Married to my husband now, I know that wasn’t even close to love. He was 4 years older than me, had just finished basic training and I was forced to marry him, and move 9 hours away from my parents. I was heart broken and called my mother everyday crying. He went to Korea after only being married for a few short months, I went home, and we separated, and ended up getting a divorce. He has seen his daughter 5 times since then. She was only 4 months old at the time. She doesn’t know him at all other than a few trace emails within the last few years and birthday cards and Christmas cards that are signed by his wife. There is not one thing glam about being a teen mom. I wished that tv shows didn’t portray it that way because teens have to learn the hard way and they are too naive to know that Hollywood isn’t real. I got very lucky and met my now husband 14 years ago when she was only 2. He has become the father she knows and loves. The other, seriously was a sperm donor.
