Are you ready for a tasty homemade wheat bread recipe that everyone in the family is going to love? This easy wheat bread recipe is perfect for so many uses! (and tastes great, too!)

Homemade Wheat Bread

One thing that I think we can all agree on is that homemade bread is the best. There’s really nothing quite like it. It’s not only softer, it just has an overall better taste.

The great thing about this simple bread recipe is that it isn’t hard to do…at all. And while homemade bread might have a shorter shelf life than other bread that you’ll buy in the store, don’t fret. You’ll have no trouble eating this recipe in literally no time at all.

We use this bread for everything from toast so sandwiches and love the ease and texture so much.

What happens if the bread dough doesn’t rise?

More than likely, the yeast isn’t active anymore. This can happen if it’s too old or has been in other elements that make it go inactive.

The easiest way to test your yeast is to add a little bit to some warm water. If it foams up after a few minutes, it shows you that it’s still active and fine. If it doesn’t, you’re going to need to toss it out and buy some more yeast for your bread.

What goes well with homemade wheat bread?

The better question may be what doesn’t?! Some people like to eat it warm, straight for the oven…but others like it with butter or jam on it as well.

The best part of eating homemade bread is that you can eat it however you want! It makes a killer grilled cheese sandwich, too!

Simple Tips for This Easy Homemade Wheat Bread Recipe

There really isn’t a lot of tips for this recipe but the biggest one that I do have it to keep it in an airtight container or bag to keep it as fresh as possible.

The difference from the bread that you buy at the store and the bread that you make at home is that there aren’t any preservatives to keep it soft in the homemade bread. This means that you’re going to need to store it in a way to keep all that air out!

Ingredients

  • 1 2/3 cups warm water, divided
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon plus one teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed at room temperature
  • 2 cups white whole wheat flour
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

Combine one cup warm water, yeast, and one teaspoon sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer. Mix
the ingredients and allow to sit for 5 to 10 minutes, until the yeast begins to foam.

Add the remaining water, sugar, salt, butter, whole wheat flour, and all-purpose flour. Use the
dough hook to mix the ingredients on low speed. When the dough begins to pull away from the
bowl, increase the speed to medium-high and continue kneading for 6 to 7 minutes.

Add the olive oil to the bowl and coat the dough with the oil. Cover the bowl with a damp towel
and allow to rise in a warm place for 45 minutes, until doubled in size.

Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and knead the dough. Form the dough into one
large cylinder to fit into a 9-inch loaf pan for one large loaf. Or separate the dough into two even
cylinders to fit in two 8-inch loaf pans for two smaller loaves. Grease the loaf pan and place the
    dough inside.

Cover the pan with a damp towel and allow to rise in the pan for 45 minutes.

When the dough is ready to be cooked, preheat the oven to 390 degrees. Bake the smaller
loaves 25 to 30 minutes or the large loaf for 30 to 35 minutes. Remove from oven with the
    bread is golden brown.

Allow to cool for five minutes in the pan, then remove from pan and allow to cool completely
    before serving.
